What does he mean by this?

A while back I asked out this guy I like via facebook. I sent him a message and said " I know this is awkward but do you want to hang out sometime." He never responded or said anything to me :( recently, a friend told me that he told her that I had sent him a message and he didn't know what to say back. What does this mean, as in is he interested or not?
