Mercedes Benz BAS/ESP Light On?

I have a 2000 Mercedes Benz e320 and the BAS/ESP light turned on. I know that it means Brake Assist and Electric Stability Program but I dont know what is actually wrong. Can someone please help me and tell me whats wrong with the car. And i dont want answers like take it to the workshop or any guesses.
