Why is he acting this way?

This guy i got to know a month ago we got on great and were texting alot.He was even offering to help teach me new rugby skills cos i play it and he said he was really good at it.He was even very impressed that i play rugby and he was complimenting me alot via text message.I thought it was going well. We had arranged to meet up last weekend at cos there was a big concert festival on.Except last minute on friday he facebook messaged me and said he was not going anymore.Then around 12.30 when i was out nightclubbing he texted me asking was i out.He sent that message twice.Of course i had left my phone in the hotel so i didnt reply till the next day explaining why i didnt text back and asked him did he want to come out that night but he never replied.So Monday i saw on facebook he put up in a relationship with this girl.So i thought of nothing of it and moved on.But then that night he texted me at 1am twice saying hey how are you? i found it strange cos i was asleep at that time.I replied next day and no response.I really dont know what he is up to?
