Christopher Columbus proved the Earth was not flat in 1492, evolution says we evolved from a common ancestor?

Columbus did not try to prove that the Earth was round. It was well known in 1492 that it was not flat. Columbus thought that it would be faster to get to the Orient by sailing west instead of going around Africa and east. He miscalculated the circumference of the Earth, nothing more.
