Why are christians obsessed with the apocolypse?

It seems like so many christians I know are obsessed with the endtimes and are actually excited and talk about it like its the best thing ever. Also, it seems like the prophecy's may be self fulfilling because most christians I know don't care about global warming since they think jesus is coming soon so we don't need to worry about pollution. Doesn't this all seem a bit morbid to you? Why do christians have such an apocalypse fetish?
